1 egg, beaten

- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg, milk, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove fritters from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with maple syrup, if desired.
