  1. Rub 1/2 oz. of butter into 1 lb. of flour, adding a pinch of salt.
  2. Mix all with a little milk into a stiff paste.
  3. Beat well with the biscuit brake.
  4. Roll out as thin as possible.
  5. Cut like cheese straws.
  6. Bake in a slow oven till crisp and brown—5 or 6 minutes will do.

“Straws” (for Dessert). (Birk Hall.) 1 lb. of flour, rub into it ½ oz. of butter, adding a pinch of salt. Mix all with a little milk into a stiff paste.
