Soda Cake. No. 1. A teaspoonful of soda mixed in a tablespoonful of milk; beat up 4 eggs in a gill of warm milk; mix all well together; rub ½ lb. of butter thoroughly into 1 lb. of flour; have ready ¼ lb. currants, ¼ lb. stoned raisins, 2 ozs. chopped candied mixed peel, ½ lb. sugar, and some grated nutmeg. Mix all well together, and beat for 20 minutes. This cake will take 2 hours to bake.
