  1. When anything catches and is scorched or sticks in a stewpan, do not scrape it, for then the tinning will come off.
  2. Take a little common kitchen soda and a handful of ashes from a coal fire (the ashes must be cold); put them into the pan and fill up with cold water.
  3. Set it for 2 hours by the side of the fire, and it will then clean the pots without damage.

Cooking Pots—to Clean. (Mrs. Thomas.) When anything catches and is scorched or sticks in a stewpan, do not scrape it, for then the tinning will come off.
