  1. Rub two ounces of flour with three quarters of an ounce of butter till quite smooth.
  2. Add to it a saltspoonful of essence of anchovy, about eight drops of carmine, a tiny dust of cayenne pepper, and half an egg.
  3. Mix all together with a teaspoonful of cold water.
  4. Roll out thin, and use.
