Red Colour. TO make this colour, boil an ounce of cochineal in half a pint of water, for about five minutes; then add half an ounce of cream of tartar, and half an ounce of pounded allum, and boil the whole on a slow fire about as long again. In order to know if it is done, dip a pen into it, write on white paper, and if it shews the colour clear, it is sufficient. Then take it off the fire, add two ounces of sugar, and let it settle. Pour it clear off, and keep it in a bottle well stopped for use.
