CUSTARD FOR DUCHESS PUDDING.—Put into a stewpan
one and a half pints of boiling new milk, four ounces of castor
sugar, one split vanilla pod, and the very finely-chopped
peel of two lemons; add to it ten raw yolks of eggs that
have been well beaten, return the pan to the fire, and stir
the mixture till it thickens; then use as instructed.
