  1. Put a peck of poppies into a proper vessel with two gallons of good brandy.
  2. Let it stand forty-eight hours.
  3. Strain off the liquor.
  4. Stone a pound of raisins of the sun.
  5. Bruise the coriander seeds, sweet fennel seeds, and sliced liquorice together.
  6. Put the bruised seeds and liquorice into the brandy, with a pound of good powder sugar.
  7. Let it stand two months, stirring it every day.
  8. Strain it off, and bottle it for use.

Cordial Poppy Water. PUT a peck of poppies into a proper vessel with two gallons of good brandy, let it stand forty-eight hours, and then strain off the liquor. Stone a pound of raisins of the sun, and take an ounce of coriander seeds, an ounce of sweet fennel seeds, and an ounce of liquorice sliced. Bruise them all together, and put them into the brandy, with a pound of good powder sugar. Let it stand two months; stirring it every day; then strain it off, and bottle it for use.
